New delhi date. 3

Linking the instability created after the Taliban's occupation of Afghanistan to India's Citizenship Research Act, Union Minister Hardeep Puri said on Sunday that instability in neighboring countries and the situation of minorities in India highlighted the need for CAA.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri, while sharing the news of people brought to India from Afghanistan, tweeted that the recent developments in our volatile neighboring country and the way Sikhs and Hindus are going through bad times show why India needs a Citizenship Research Act (CAA). .

The Central Government's Citizenship Reform Act (CAA) proposes to grant Indian citizenship to people from six minority communities (Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, Christian and Sikh) in Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Under current law, anyone must stay in India for at least 11 years to obtain Indian citizenship. But the time limit has been reduced from 11 years to six years for minorities in neighboring countries. The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2013 has been passed in Parliament, but has not been implemented since December 2014.
