The Center introduced 'BH' registration series for easy interstate transport in the country

The Central Government has launched the new Vehicle Series Bharat Series (BH-Series) for new vehicles to facilitate inter-state transport of individual vehicles in the country. This will be a kind of registration mark. In this regard, the government has said that the system of registration of new vehicles exempts vehicle owners from the process of re-registration from one state or union territory to another.

The Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways (MORTH) said in a statement that the registration of vehicles under the India Series (BH-Series) on a voluntary basis would go to the defense, central government employees, state government employees, central public entities, government companies with offices in more than four states and The facility will provide facility to the officials of institutions as well as private companies. This facility will exempt vehicle owners from the process of re-registration of a vehicle going from one state to another.

The ministry further said that the need for re-registration of a vehicle when individual vehicle owners move from one state to another is a complex and tedious process and an IT-based solution has been sought for vehicle registration. The format of BH-Series registration will be YY BH #### XX, in which YY will indicate the year of first registration, BH is the code of India series, #### will be a four digit number and XX will be two alphabets.

The Ministry has announced the launch of Bharat Series (BH-Series) for new vehicles through a notification dated August 9, 2021. According to the notification, the motor vehicle tax levied by the States and Union Territories at the time of registration of BH series is Rs. In case of vehicles up to 10 lakh, eight per cent, Rs. 10 per cent for vehicles priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh and Rs. In case of vehicles worth more than Rs 20 lakh, it will be 15 per cent. In addition, two per cent extra charge will be levied for diesel vehicles while electric vehicles will get two per cent tax exemption.

In case of a vehicle with BH-Series registration, motor vehicle tax will be levied electronically. In this regard, the new Central Motor Vehicle (21st Amendment) Rules, 2021 will come into force on September 15, 2021. Registration for the BH-Series vehicle will be generated randomly through the mark portal. At present, a person is given a maximum of 12 months to re-register a vehicle after relocating from one state to another. In addition, for re-registration of a vehicle, the vehicle owner has to obtain a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the current state for re-registration in another state.
