Malvinder Singh Mali, an adviser to Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, has once again made a controversial statement. After accusing Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of spreading sectarian tensions, he claimed that Kashmir was a separate country, illegally occupied by India and Pakistan. Kashmir belongs to the people of Kashmir. Mali tweeted this.

Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia has taken aim at Mali's tweet. He said Mali's statement was an insult to the families of the martyrs. He further said that Rahul Gandhi should answer whether Mali's statement is an insult to the families of the martyrs or not. If Rahul Gandhi does not agree with this then the true face of the Congress will come out in front of everyone and if not then what action will they take against Sidhu. Amarinder Singh has been accused of spreading unrest in Punjab over the Pakistan issue but Sidhu was seen embracing Pakistan's army chief. Pakistan and the Congress should be treated equally.

BJP leader Vineet Joshi also criticized Mali's statement and demanded action against Mali. At the same time, this statement shows the direction in which these people are taking Punjab, he said. He further said that many people have become martyrs for Kashmir. His statement is an insult to the families of the martyrs.

Sidhu did not respond to Mali's tweet. However, Prince Varka, a government spokesman and personal confidante of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, advised Mali not to spread hatred and said he felt sensitive to the Kashmir issue and said anyone should refrain from making such comments. According to him, he knows the context in which Mali made this statement but he should be aware of the limitations.
