Panic kills five in Maharashtra with Delta Plus variant: 66 patients reported


- 38,667 new cases of corona in India, a further 478 deaths

- In the last 48 days in the country, the daily cases of corona have come down from 50,000, to 3.87 lakh active cases

New Delhi: The Delta variant of the Corona outbreak, which has spread across the world, including the United States and Britain, has registered nine patients in Maharashtra and five of them have died. Some of the patients who took the delta variant even took both doses of the corona vaccine. Meanwhile, 4.5 new cases of corona were reported in the country on Saturday, with six more deaths. With this, the total number of cases of corona crossed 4.81 crore while the death toll was 2.50 lakh.

The Maharashtra Health Department said that the investigation of genome sequences of patient samples from different parts of the state revealed that there were 3 cases of delta variant in Maharashtra. The first case of death of a 6-year-old woman due to delta form of corona virus has come to light in Mumbai.

An elderly BMC official said the elderly man, who died in the last week of July from the virus, had taken both doses of the corona vaccine. At least two other people who came in contact with him after the death of the old man have been reported to have fallen prey to the Delta variant. The virus is highly contagious. On the other hand, the Union Ministry of Health said that the daily number of corona cases in the country has been below 40,000 for the last three consecutive days. However, the number of active cases has increased to 4.5 lakh. In the last three hours, the number of active cases has increased by 4.5. The corona has so far cured more than 2.12 crore patients while the mortality rate is 1.6 per cent.

Corona's daily positivity rate was 1.5 per cent, down from 3 per cent in the last 15 days. The weekly positivity rate is 4.05 percent. A total of 2.41 crore doses of corona vaccine have been given in the country so far, the health ministry said.
