Mysore rape case: Police arrest five after two days

Mysore, Saturday 28 August 2021

Police have arrested five people two days after a gang-rape of a medical student at a private college in Mysore. Karnataka Home Minister Arga Jananendra has lauded the police for their action.

Earlier, former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has demanded immediate action in the case. He lauded the action taken by the police in the rape case in Hyderabad two years ago. Similar action should be taken against rapists. It may be recalled that the accused were shot dead by the police in a heinous incident in Hyderabad.

The University of Mysore has taken some strict measures for the safety of female students. Outsiders are barred from entering the Kukkarahalli Sarovar premises near the college after 6 pm. In other Gangotri campuses, women are also banned from walking alone after 6.30 pm. Not only that, security officers will be patrolling the college premises from 4 pm to 8 pm.
