Minister Sunbor Shullai in the BJP government in Meghalaya has urged the people of the state to eat more beef. "Encourage people to eat more beef than chicken, mutton and fish as it will dispel the perception among the minority that the BJP will ban cow slaughter," Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Sunbor Shullai said on Saturday.

Sunbor Shullai was sworn in as a cabinet minister just last week. "I urge people to eat more beef than chicken, mutton and fish to dispel the misconception among the minority that the BJP will ban cow slaughter," he said.

Free to eat all: Sunbor Shullai

"India is a democracy," said Sunbor Shullai. Everyone here in Teva is free to eat whatever they want. Not only that, he assured the people that he would talk to Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma and ensure that cattle transport in Meghalaya would not be affected by Assam's new cow law.

Referring to the ongoing border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, Sunbor Shullai said, "This is the right time for the state to use police force to protect the border and its people." "If the people of Assam continue to harass our people in the border areas, the time will not be just to talk or drink tea," he said. We have to answer. We have to take action if we get the chance. At the same time, however, he said he did not support violence.
