Kinnaur landslide: Death toll rises to 16 with two more bodies found

The death toll has risen to 16 as two more bodies were found under debris on Friday, the third day of a landslide near Nigulsari in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district. Another 14 people are missing.

Rescue teams recovered four bodies from the rubble on Thursday, the second day of a devastating landslide near Nigulsari on National Highway-6. About 20 hours after the accident, some pieces and tires of the Himachal Path Transport Corporation bus were also found. However, 14 of the passengers on the bus are still missing.

The injured and dead in tippers, cars, sumo and other vehicles trapped in the landslide have been evacuated. Now only the bus tourists are missing. With the passage of time, the hopes of the relatives of the missing are waning. The condition of the corpses has become so bad that it has become difficult to identify them.

The state government will provide Rs 5 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
