Jandhan completes seven years: 43 crore accounts opened, Rs 1.46 lakh crore Deposited

New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Jan Dhan Yojana has completed seven years. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Jandhan Yojana has changed the lives of millions of families. On the other hand, 43 crore accounts have been opened across the country under Jandhan Yojana in the last seven years.

Accounts are opened with zero balance under this scheme. Jandhan Yojana was launched on 28th August 2014. So far 43.04 bank accounts have been opened under this scheme. A total of Rs 1.46 lakh crore has been deposited.

Out of the total Jandhan account holders, 31.33 crore also have debit cards. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram said that out of the total 43 crore accounts opened under Jandhan Yojana, 23.87 crore accounts are for women. Out of this, a total of 36.86 crore accounts are currently operational.

According to the RBI, a Jandhan account is considered in-operative if no transaction has taken place in two years. Under this scheme not only adults or elderly but also children below 10 years of age can open accounts. Opening this account also provides accident insurance of Rs 2 lakh, life cover of Rs 30,000 and interest on the deposit. Jandhan account can be opened in any bank.
