Designed by experts from the University of Minnesota in the United States, the smog tower has 40 fans and 5,000 filters. The experts also developed a 100-meter-high tower erected in China's Xi'an province.

According to a report, the tower, erected in the northern Chinese province of Xi'an, has yielded very good results and has also seen a significant improvement in air loss. The height of the experimental smog tower at Connaught Place, the largest commercial area in Delhi, is 24 meters and has 40 fans.

An umbrella-like structure has been erected at the top of the tower from where it will absorb the polluted air and release the filtered air from below into the atmosphere which will improve air loss and also reduce the level of pollution, an official statement issued by the Delhi government said.
