In June, the production capacity of Ramdasivir increased to 122.49 lakh bottles

New Delhi, 4 August 2021 Tuesday

India's production capacity for comedo remedicivir injection was 4.5 lakh vials per month as on April 15, which increased to 12.5 lakh vials per month in June. To date, there is no shortage of this anti-virus drug in any state or union territory of the country.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandvia, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said that as the number of corona cases in the country skyrocketed in April and May, the demand for remedicivir for treatment of patients also increased due to lack of supply.

The country's pharmaceutical director general has expeditiously approved 30 licensed manufacturers' sites to significantly increase production of remedivir. By doing so, as of April 15, there were 6 manufacturer-sites of remedivir in the country, which has now increased to 3.

In addition, to prevent shortage of these injections in the country, the export of Remedesivir Injection and Remedesivir API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) has been stopped from April 11, 2021.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare worked together to alleviate the shortage of injections as well as to distribute the present stock of Remedesivir to all the States and Union Territories equally.
