Delhi: Demonstration of Afghans outside UNHCR office, locals fear Corona

Kabul, Ta. Tuesday 24 August 2021

The impact of the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan is also being felt in India. Here in Delhi, some Afghans have started protesting. Slogans are being chanted outside the UNHCR office. Justice is being demanded but there is another aspect of the protest that has upset the locals of Vasant Vihar. They are afraid of corona transition.

Demonstration of Afghans, why bother people?

Outside the UNHCR office, Afghan citizens are demanding from the UN agency that they issue an immigration letter to stay in other countries. At the same time refugee status / card is also being demanded. The protest is going on in the country's capital on this issue but the locals of Vasant Vihar are trapped. He is supporting the Afghans but complains that they are not following the Korona protocol. No one wore a mask during the performance.

"We do not want any force to be used against these Afghans," a local said. These people have suffered a lot. This is already annoying. Hopefully this problem will be resolved soon as the protesters sitting here are not wearing masks. Not even the concept of social distance. We are also concerned about the spread of corona. Garbage is also being thrown everywhere on the road.

Long lasting performance

Corona needs risk but the protesting Afghans are unwilling to leave without meeting their own demands. He is looking ready for a long fight. Ahmed Khan Anjam, an Afghan refugee present here, says that we will protest until our demands are met. Some refugees also say that if our demands are not met, there will be a hunger strike now. Although these people thanked the Government of India, questions remain on the UNHCR.
