The BJP has welcomed the Calcutta High Court's verdict on the issue of post-election violence in West Bengal, calling it a constitutional victory, while the ruling Trinamool Congress has signaled it will challenge the ruling in the Supreme Court.

BJP national general secretary and in-charge of West Bengal Kailash Vijay Varghese said the post-election violence in Bengal took place under the protection of the state government and the Trinamool Congress. West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said the Calcutta High Court's verdict was a moral victory for the victims of violence. The High Court's CBI probe order on Thursday is a victory for the Constitution. He claimed that six BJP workers had been killed in post-election violence in Bengal. In addition, before the Bengal elections, Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that more than 200 BJP workers had been killed in Trinamool Congress-backed violence in Bengal.

Meanwhile, according to Trinamool Congress sources, the state government will challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court. "The court has ordered," said Trinamool Congress leader and MP Saugat Roy. We respect the judiciary. But if the CBI comes in every aspect of law and order in the judicial jurisdiction of the state, it will be considered a violation of the rights of the states. I am sure that the state government will review the order and decide to apply to the apex court if necessary. Trinamool Congress state general secretary Kunal Ghosh, on the other hand, blamed the BJP for the violence in the state.
