Introduced five principles for maritime security

Modi is the first Prime Minister of the country to lead a UN Security Council debate

UN: Prime Minister Modi chaired a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on maritime security and enhancing cooperation. At the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that the maritime dispute should be resolved in accordance with international law.

The meeting, organized by video conference, presented five principles for maritime security. Introducing the first principle, he said that barriers to trade by sea should be removed. Introducing another principle, Modi said the maritime border dispute should be resolved in accordance with international law. Only through this principle will peace and stability be created among the countries of the world.

He further said that India had resolved its maritime border dispute with its neighbor Bangladesh on the basis of this principle. Introducing the third principle, Modi said that the global community should work together to tackle natural disasters and maritime threats posed by pirates. He called the protection of the marine environment and resources the fourth principle.
