Approval of 20 lakh annual work plan for bamboo cultivation

An action plan of Rs 50 lakh has been sanctioned for Bamboo Mission 2021-'6 in Jammu and Kashmir. Issues like bamboo spread and cultivation, production-development, development of equipment and machinery, skills development and awareness, research and development work in bamboo farming are included in the action plan.

Chief Secretary of State Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta on Thursday approved the amount of the annual work plan for the bamboo mission at the annual meeting of the UT (Union Territory) level working committee.

In the current financial year, the department has proposed to set up 3 bamboo nurseries in the private and public sectors with a capacity of 3.08 lakh plants and cover an area of ​​1200 hectares under high density bamboo plantations. 2000 farmers will be involved in scientific farming.

The department will set up two tissue culture labs and a bamboo shoot processing unit with the organization of various skill development workshops and awareness creation camps. This is expected to increase income as well as provide employment to local people.

The Chief Secretary laid special emphasis on productivity growth and better agricultural practices. The department has been asked to provide various welfare assistance and support.
