Afghanistan: School-administrator burns female students' records

Kabul, Sunday 22 August 2021

Human rights groups have expressed concern about the safety of women and girls living in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. As in the past, there is a fear that girls will be punished openly under the Taliban regime. The intent is not to harass the girls based on the information in the record

Banu Shabana Basij-Rasikh, who set up a boarding school for girls in Afghanistan, has set fire to her students' records to save them and their families from the Taliban.

The video with these scenes is going viral. Until 20 years ago, when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan, women who violated Sharia law were beaten with hunters and publicly executed.

However, with the arrival of US troops in the country and the formation of a democratic government, such incidents declined. "I, my students and friends are safe, but there are still many people here who do not consider themselves safe," said Shabana's Basij-Rasikh. I'm worried about that.
