Afghan-crisis: New e-visa type introduced for stranded Indians

New Delhi, 17 August 2021 Tuesday

The Union Home Ministry has launched a new e-visa category of e-emergency ex-miscellaneous visas, along with a review of visa provisions in the wake of the crisis in Afghanistan, using which Afghan citizens wishing to come to India can apply online.

The new visa will initially be valid for six months for Hindu and Sikh families who are likely to be harassed by the Taliban in Afghanistan and are currently stuck there.

There is an issue of security in the background of creating this category. With the Indian Embassy in Kabul now closed, the process, including verification of all applications for new types of visas, will be conducted in New Delhi.

The purpose of launching e-emergency ex-miscellaneous visa is to expedite the process of visa applications required to come to India in view of the current situation in Afghanistan.
