A Delhi court has acquitted Congress leader Shashi Tharoor of all charges against him in connection with the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. Pushkar's body was found on the night of January 14, 2013 in a room of a luxury hotel in Delhi. During the virtual hearing, Special Judge Gitanjali Goyal acquitted Sunanda Pushkar.

After the verdict, Shashi Tharoor said that he was finally released from the seven-and-a-half-year PD. This verdict is a great relief. He further added that justice has finally been done.

Tharoor said on Twitter that justice had finally been done. After Suneda’s death I peacefully faced many charges and maintained my faith in the Indian judiciary.

As soon as he heard the judge's verdict, Shashi Tharoor said, "Your Honor, thank you." The last seven and a half years have been painful. I appreciate your decision.

The Delhi Police had framed charges against Shashi Tharoor under Section 4A of the IPC (atrocities by husband or relative) and Section 306 (incitement to suicide).

During the hearing, senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, appearing for Tharoor, told the court that the SIT's probe had not found any evidence against Tharoor.

Earlier, the hearing was also held on July 7, but the hearing was adjourned till August 15 as Shashi Tharoor sought more time to provide more documents.
