The government procured a record 433.24 lakh tonnes of wheat in 2021-'22


New Delhi: The Center has so far procured a record 433.24 lakh tonnes of wheat in the current Ravi marketing season of 2021-22. A similar record has been set in paddy procurement.

A record 862.01 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured till July 4, 2020-'21 kharif marketing season (October-September). The previous record in wheat procurement was recorded in the 2020-'21 season (April-March), when 389.93 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured.

The government's Food Corporation of India and state agencies procure foodgrains at the minimum support price. Wheat procurement has come to an end, breaking all previous records in the work, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey told a virtual press conference.

Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have done their best so far, the official added. With regard to these purchases, the maximum amount so far -84,369.19 crore has been credited directly to farmers' accounts across the country, he said.
