The government cannot give everything to the refugees, they should also work for the country: court

The homeless and the urban poor were demanded to be provided with free accommodation and meals three times a day

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court has said that if refugees, beggars and pedestrians are not asked to go to work for the country as per the government's plan and provide free shelter and food, their population will only increase. Not everything can be provided to them by the government.

At the hearing of a public interest petition filed by the founder of the voluntary organization, it was demanded that relief be provided to the homeless and urban poor three times a day like nutritious food, free accommodation, clean public toilets and bathrooms, free drinking water, soap and sanitary napkins.

Disposing of the petition, the High Court said that the government and the municipality have taken steps in the right direction in this regard within their capacity and no further direction is required. The court also said that the municipality and the government should consider providing free facilities in public toilets for the benefit of the homeless.

The court said in an oral inspection that he too should go to work for the country. There is also provision of employment for them under the government scheme. All work the same. The government cannot give them everything otherwise their population will continue to grow. You are only increasing the population of such people. In the last hearing, the court had asked the municipality why shelters could not be built in every ward despite adequate funding.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation's counsel on Saturday filed a document in the court signed by the Assistant Commissioner (Planning) detailing the food packets and sanitary napkins given to the refugees with the help of the municipal authority and some voluntary organizations. A project is underway to solve the problem of refugees and they will be given relief.
