The court reserved judgment on the issue of framing charges against Tharoor

New Delhi, Dt

A Delhi court has adjourned for almost a month the charges against senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar in connection with the death of Tharoor in a luxury hotel. The case will now go to trial on July 9.

Special Judge Gitanjali Goyal was scheduled to give a verdict on Friday on the issue of framing charges against senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, but adjourned further hearing in the case till July 8 after the public prosecutor sought a week's time for written submission. The judge said in his order that the public prosecutor had asked for a week's time for a written submission. The court will now hold a hearing on the issue on July 9.

The court had earlier adjourned the case to July 2 due to the Corona epidemic. The court reserved its verdict after hearing arguments from Delhi Police as well as Tharoor's lawyers. During the hearing, the police demanded that various charges be framed against Tharoor, including incitement to suicide, while Tharoor's lawyer said that the SIT's investigation was complete and that the SIT had acquitted Tharoor of all charges against him.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a suite of a luxury hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2015. The Delhi Police had filed a case against Tharoor under various sections of the IPC, but did not arrest him. Tharoor Pami has been out on bail since July 2016. Police claim that Sunanda Pushkar's death was due to poisoning.
