Sharad Pawar's meeting with Modi amid presidential debate

Maharashtra's politics heated up, signs of collapse

Shiv Sena favors Pawar for presidency, issues discussed during one-hour meeting kept secret

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Saturday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting between the two leaders lasted an hour. There is no official word on what happened during the visit.

But sources say he discussed the current political issue. Regarding the visit, the Shiv Sena said that Sharad Pawar could be a contender for the presidency.

Shiv Sena sources said that the NCP may contest for the presidency. The meeting with Prime Minister Modi could also be part of a future strategy. But in doing so, Sharad Pawar will lose his strength in Maharashtra. The BJP will wipe them out.

Both BJP and Shiv Sena can move forward in Maharashtra together. The reason is that both are pro-Hindu organizations. While the NCP president knows that the BJP cannot be his natural partner.

Regarding Sharad Pawar Modi's visit, Shiv Sena has made it clear that everything is going well in the government ahead of Mahavikas. No other government has had the same leeway as NCP ministers.

Earlier, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had met Sharad Pawar and AK Antony. The meeting was attended by Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat and Chief of Army Staff General MM Narwane. The visit is important as the monsoon session of Parliament begins on the 19th. Rajnath Singh is also the Deputy Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha.
