(PTI) New delhi date. 5

A case has been registered against 17 officials and contractors in the second FIR filed by the CBI for irregularities in the Rs 12 crore Gomti River Front development project in Lucknow. The project was started under the previous Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh. At that time, SP President Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister.

After filing a fresh FIR in the case, the CBI today raided 14 places in Uttar Pradesh, Alwar in Rajasthan and a total of nine places in Kolkata in West Bengal. A second FIR has been registered by the CBI in the case.

In the second FIR, a total of 16 officers, including chief engineers, and 12 contractors have been charged. The CBI is also investigating 20 notices inviting tenders.

The agency found in the investigation that the tenders were approved on the basis of fake documents. Preliminary investigation further revealed that 4 work orders worth Rs 1 lakh were issued without tender.

It is worth mentioning that this is a violation of the rules framed by the government. It is mandatory to issue tenders for orders worth more than Rs one lakh. The new FIR was lodged by the CBI a year before the Assembly elections. It is to be mentioned that 202 assembly elections are to be held in Uttar Pradesh.
