Out of more than 1,54,965 post offices in the country, 1,39,067 operate in rural areas
New Delhi: The Indian Postal Department, i.e. India Post, has started offering a new facility for taxpayers to file their income tax returns from the post office for the convenience of their home. Along with this, 73 different services will now be provided by the post department.
"India will be able to file an income tax return by going to the Common Service Center (CSC) counter," the India Post said on Twitter. Taxpayers can avail this facility by visiting their nearest post office.
There are currently 154965 post offices in the country. Out of which 139067 are working in rural areas. The postal service, banking as well as various services for the insurance sector are provided to the people at the Common Service Centers of all the post offices of the country.
A total of 73 services are provided at the center, including some e-services. With the exception of big cities, small towns and rural areas have a hard time filing income tax returns. Now with the facility of filing IT returns at the post office, there will be a huge relief.
