No one begs voluntarily, beggars cannot be removed from the streets: Supreme

New Delhi: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court against the beggars, in which the petitioner made a bizarre demand that the public sector should ban begging. The demand was rejected by the apex court and at the same time the petitioner was told that no one was begging of his own accord.

The Supreme Court said that we cannot take the view that no beggar should appear on the road. Begging is a social and economic problem. Lack of education and employment forces some people to beg for basic necessities.

No one wants to beg voluntarily. The petitioner also demanded that anyone begging in public should be tested and vaccinated for corona. The apex court had sought a reply from the Center and the Delhi government on the demand.

A bench of Supreme Court Judge DY Chandrachud said people lacked education and employment. They have to meet their own needs so they are forced to beg.
