New Delhi: Nirav Modi's sister Purvi Modi alias Purvi Mehta, 47, who has become a government witness worth Rs 13,000 crore, has returned Rs 17 crore from her British account to the Indian government. Purvi Mehta and her husband Mayank Mehta were pardoned on condition of full cooperation in the investigation of the case.

In the Punjab National Bank scam (PNB scam) case, Nirav Modi's sister and government witness Purvi alleged that Rs. 17.25 crore has been sent to the Government of India. The Enforcement Directorate has provided this information. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said that the sister of fugitive businessman Nirav Modi had sent Rs 17.25 crore to the Indian government from a British bank account.

Punjab National Bank was exempted from legal proceedings in return for help in loan fraud cases. The ED said in a statement that on June 24, Purvi Modi informed the Enforcement Directorate that he had been informed about a bank account in his name in London, Britain, which was opened at the behest of his brother Nirav Modi and that the money was not his.

The statement said that since Purvi Modi was pardoned on the basis of full and correct declaration terms, he had deposited 23 23,16,889.03 from a British bank account into the bank account of the Enforcement Directorate, Government of India. According to the statement, with the help of Purvi Modi, the Enforcement Directorate has been able to recover about Rs 17.25 crore (23 23,16,889.03).
