Like petrol-diesel, CNG is also dangerous, with high levels of nitrogen oxides in the air

New Delhi, 19 July 2021 Monday

According to a recent report by Greenpeace India, many major cities in the country, including Delhi, have seen an increase in nitrogen oxide levels compared to last year. The level of nitrogen oxides in Delhi in April, 2021 was 125% higher than in April, 2020. Nitrogen oxides are present in the rural areas of the country, but the main reason for the increase in nitrogen oxides in the air of big cities is the emission of CNG vehicle called green fuel.

Nitrogen oxides are just as harmful to human life and the environment as carbon dioxide. According to a discovery made in Europe, the nanometer-shaped particles emitted from a CNG vehicle can cause cancer, Alzheimer's and lung diseases.

Considered an environmentally friendly fuel, CNG emits a very fine but deadly particle of 2.5 nm, 100 to 500 times higher than that of petrol-diesel vehicles - especially in urban transport, where vehicles run very slowly.

In a hot country like India, CNG vehicles are sharing as many deaths as diesel cars and buses were damaged earlier. CNG vehicles emit five times more carbon monoxide than other fuels, which is more lethal to the ozone layer in the atmosphere.
