India has become the third country after the United States and Brazil to record more than four lakh deaths from corona. More than two million corona-patients have died in Mexico.

The US is at the forefront with six million patient deaths, respectively. It is followed by Brazil (5.2 lakh), India (4 lakh), Mexico (2.3 lakh) and Peru (1.9 lakh). More than a million patients have died in Russia, England, Italy, France and Colombia.

Of these 10 countries, India has the lowest death toll at 287 per 100,000 population, with Russia at 916, France, Mexico at between 1,000 and 2,000 in the United States and England. Peru has the highest ratio of these countries. Here 5૭65 patients per one lakh population have died.

Colombia, where so far one million Corona patients have died, has a death rate of more than 2,000 per million in Colombia, Italy and Brazil, but less than 3,000. India has killed 1.3 people per 100 infections, whichever is the lowest among these countries.

India has one of the highest mortality rates per million compared to other major Asian countries and its neighbors, both economically and in terms of population. Most other countries have lower ratios than India, with the exception of Nepal, where 308 patients per million population have died.

The Philippines and Indonesia are the only other countries where the ratio is above 200. The ratio is 160 in Malaysia, 143 in Sri Lanka and 122 in Afghanistan. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand have ratios below 100. India is better than most of the above countries in case fatality rate. However, the case fatality rate is lower in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia than in India.

The latest data from Johns Hopkins University's Covid Dashboard and UN Population Estimates-2021 show that of the 121 countries with a population of more than 50 million, 54 have more deaths per million population than India. For the remaining 66 of these countries, the ratio is lower than in India.
