Income tax department raids at places of media group Dainik Bhaskar in several cities

The income tax department on Thursday raided the premises of media group Dainik Bhaskar in different cities. The raids were carried out in connection with alleged tax evasion.

According to official sources, the raids were carried out in several other places in the country, including Bhopal, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

There has been no official statement from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on the matter but official sources said the raid also involved promoters of a major Hindi media group operating in several states.

In this regard, Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh tweeted that tax officials were present in half a dozen premises of the group, including an office at a press complex in the state capital Bhopal.

RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jai has also reacted to this. There is a possibility of a raid on the media, he said.
