Formation of 'Ministry of Cooperatives' to promote the co-operative movement in the country

New Delhi, Dt

The Modi government has taken a historic step by setting up a separate 'Ministry of Co-operation' to make its vision of 'Sanskar Se Samrudhi' a reality. The purpose of this ministry is to promote the co-operative movement in the country.

Sources said the ministry was set up to deepen the roots of the grassroots movement at the grassroots level in the country and to benefit the people. The ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal and policy framework to strengthen the co-operative movement. At present, the co-operative based economic development model is very relevant for a country where every member works with a sense of responsibility.

The Ministry will work on enabling the development of Multi State Cooperatives (MSCS) and simplifying the process for 'Ease of Doing Business' for co-operatives. The central government has indicated that it is committed to community-based development partnerships. The creation of a separate co-operative ministry caters to the Union Finance Minister's budget announcements. The move is believed to have been taken to strengthen farmers.
