Disaster in Maharashtra: Landslides and floods in 24 hours kill 112, leave 99 missing

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Maharashtra. Heavy rains, landslides and floods have killed 112 people and left 99 missing in the region in the last 24 hours.

The worst affected area is Raigad in Konkan. Landslides have been reported at 3 places in the district. So far 52 bodies have been exhumed from the rubble following the landslide at Mahad's Talia village and 53 people are missing. In addition, 33 people were seriously injured.

According to the State Disaster Control Room, 112 bodies have so far been recovered from the rubble at Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg and Pune. While 53 people are seriously injured. Apart from Taliye village, a landslide at Sutarwadi in Poladpur taluka of Raigad district has killed five people and left one missing and 15 others injured.

In Kevalal village, 5 people have been killed and 6 others seriously injured. The road to Chiplun is completely blocked due to flooding of the bridge over Vashishti river. Long lines of vehicles have formed on the Mumbai-Goa highway.
