Delhi: The Yamuna is flowing above the warning level, flood risk in low-lying areas

The Yamuna River in Delhi is once again in the danger zone due to continuous release of water from the Hathini Kund Barrage in Haryana. The water level of the river Yamuna is constantly rising. The Yamuna River is currently flowing above the warning level even below the danger mark. As the water level in the Yamuna River rises, the low-lying areas are at risk of flooding. Delhi is overcast and the meteorological department has issued an orange alert for areas adjacent to the Yamuna.

Water has been released from Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar for the last 2 days. Millions of cusecs of water are coming towards Delhi. The iron bridge has been closed in view of the rising water level of the Yamuna. Currently, the water level of Yamuna in Delhi is at 205.17 meters. Which has crossed the warning level (204.50 m). However, it is still 16 cm below the danger level (205.33 m).

As far as filling up of Yamuna in Delhi is concerned, all agencies are keeping an eye on it. Some other areas along the Yamuna could be evacuated if the situation worsens. In this direction, the administration can handle relief and rescue work.
