Delay in lockdown on Bakari Eid, Supreme Court slams Kerala govt

New Delhi, Dt. 20 July 2021, Tuesday

The Supreme Court has slammed the Kerala government's decision to delay a lockdown on the occasion of Goat Eid amid rising corona cases in Kerala.

The apex court expressed displeasure, saying, "Unfortunately, the state government has come under pressure from trade unions and has allowed the opening of shops even in areas where the corona rate is 15 per cent higher." Even here, people's lives are in danger.

While the waiver granted by the Kerala government has become a topic of discussion in the country, the apex court had said that the kind of affidavit taken by the Kerala government in the matter was worrisome. The government has increased the risk for citizens at the national level by giving such exemptions on the occasion of Goat Eid.

However, the court did not issue any notice to the Kerala government to quash the lockdown order even after the whipping. Today is the last day of delay in lockdown.
