Corona vaccine for children may be launched in September: Dr. Guleria

New Delhi, July 24, 2021

India is expected to start vaccinating children by September, AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria said this morning, adding that this would be an important step in breaking the chain of coronary transmission.

"India Biotech is testing the vaccine for children and the results will be announced by September. The Pfizer vaccine has already been approved," he said.

Zydus Cadila, on the other hand, has also passed the test for children between the ages of 12 and 18. The Ahmedabad-based company had on July 1 sought permission for emergency use, which is still pending.

As many as 420 million people in India have been vaccinated and the government wants to complete vaccination of all adults by the end of this year.

Dr. Guleria said that once the vaccine is available, the schools should start in phases. This will give more protection to the children and also increase the confidence of the parents.
