Rajya Sabha MP and Assam Congress president Ripun Bora has demanded an inquiry into the citizenship of Union Minister Nisith Pramanik. Ripun Bora had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi claiming to be an honest Bangladeshi citizen. Bora wrote in the letter, "I urge you to clarify the whole issue by conducting a transparent inquiry into the real birthplace and citizenship of Nisith Pramanik as it is creating confusion across the country."

Nisith Pramanik is a BJP MP from Cooch Behar in West Bengal. He has previously been a part of the Trinamool Congress. Before the last Lok Sabha elections, Pramanik resigned from the TMC and joined the BJP. Nisith has been made Union Minister of State for Home Affairs in the recent cabinet constituency. Assam Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora also mentioned the babal in which a Bangladeshi Facebook page congratulated Pramanik on his appointment as Minister of State and it started after he was declared the son of Bangladesh.

"It is a matter of grave concern that a foreign national is a current Union Minister," Ripun Bora tweeted. A letter has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct an inquiry into the matter. Bora, citing reports, claimed that Pramanik was born at Harinathpur under the Palasbari police station in Bangladesh's Gaibandha district. Bora said he allegedly came to West Bengal to study computers.

Rebuttal by people close to the honest

The Congress MP even claimed that after getting a computer degree, he joined the honest TMC and then the BJP and eventually rose to the position of an MP from Cooch Behar. However, Pramanik's personal sources vehemently denied such allegations, claiming that the minister was born, nurtured and educated in India.

However, by Saturday night, the name and picture of the honest man were missing from the list of ministers on the Home Ministry's website. The 'About Us' link on the official website leads to the 'Who's Who' section. There are 2 links under it- one is for Union Minister and the other is for Minister of State. Clicking on the Minister of State reveals the names of Nityanand Rai and Ajay Kumar Mishra.
