During his visit to India, US Secretary of State Anthony Blink met with a representative of the Dalai Lama, a Tibetan Buddhist cleric, which has provoked China. According to Beijing, this is a violation of the US commitment to recognize Tibet as part of China and not to support Tibet's independence.

Blink met Ngodup Dongchung, a Tibetan government official in exile and a representative of the Dalai Lama, in New Delhi on Wednesday. Dongchung, meanwhile, thanked the Biden administration for continuing to support the Tibetan movement by the United States.

Apart from that, Blink also met Gesh Dorji Damdul, director of Tibet House in Delhi. This is the first time since US President Barack Obama's meeting with the Dalai Lama in 2016 that a US government minister has visited a person linked to Tibet's deported government.

China has taken a tough stance on the visit. According to China, the US move is tantamount to interfering in its internal affairs. "The Tibet issue is purely an internal matter of China," said Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry. No foreign interference can be accepted.

He further added that the 14th Dalai Lama is not a religious person but a political exile who has sought refuge in another country. It has long engaged in anti-China activities and attempts to separate Tibet from China.
