Center removes stock limits from pulses importers


New Delhi: The Center has removed stock limits from pulses importers and relaxed millers and wholesalers in its rules. The Center has taken this step following the easing of pulses prices in the country. Thus, the stock limits will be applicable only on tur, urad, chickpeas and lentils till October 31.

However, the relief units will have to advertise the quantity they have on the consumer department's web portal, he added. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted that the Narendra Modi government has decided to give relief to wholesalers, millers and importers in stock limits as part of controlling the prices of pulses and essential commodities.

The ministry said in a separate statement that the central government has relaxed stock limits for millers and wholesalers. Importers have also been given relief in stock limits as prices have eased. The decision has been taken on the basis of feedback from states and stakeholders.

According to the ministry, it has been decided to give relief to pulses in stock limits. Along with this, the quantity of pulses will continue to be announced on the portal of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. For wholesalers, the stock limit is 500 tonnes. The quantity of any one variety or variety should be more than 300 tons. The stock limit for retailers has been kept unchanged at five tonnes.

For Millers, the limit is 20 percent of the six-month average. The government will also benefit from the relief given to Millers. This will enable farmers to get a good income. Importers, Milra may disclose the quantity of pulses before the Consumer Ministry by December.

For wholesalers, the stock limit will be 500 tonnes. It cannot hold more than 500 tons of any one variety. For Millers, the limit will be the same as their six-month production or 50 percent of the annual installed capacity, whichever is higher.
