Border dispute: Assam government says - Do not travel to Mizoram, public advisory

New Delhi, 29 July 2021 Thursday

Tensions are running high between the Assam and Mizoram governments over the border dispute. Meanwhile, the Assam government has issued a new advisory advising the people of the state not to go to Mizoram. The government said it was necessary for the personal safety of the people.

The Mizoram government has requested the home ministry to issue directions to the Assam government to refrain from such activities and withdraw the police contingent deployed at the inter-state border to avoid further clashes.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP in Assam on Thursday blamed previous Congress governments for the long-running border disputes. The BJP said the old party had taken an escapist approach to avoid a contentious issue.

He alleged that several lakh hectares of Assam had been occupied by border states for years as the Congress, which had been in power for most of the post-independence period, had taken an escapist approach to avoid issues of concern. The Congress, on the other hand, retaliated by asking that the BJP governments at the Center and in the states have done nothing to address the issue in the last few years.
