Bihar: Katihar mayor Shivraj Paswan shot dead

- Provoked people and family members insist postmortem should be done only after arrest of criminals

Mayor Shivraj Paswan has been shot dead at Katihar in Bihar. Unidentified assailants shot at him 3 times so that he was seriously injured. He was later taken to KMCH for treatment but by then he had died.

Assassination of the Mayor of Katihar

The incident took place at Shivraj Paswan's Santosh Colony on Thursday. 4 attackers riding on the bike immediately rained bullets on Shivraj Paswan. 3 of them hit him in the chest and he was seriously injured. He later died at the hospital. SDPO Amarkant Jai has confirmed the incident.

Police statement

It is still unclear why the mayor of Katihar was attacked and for what purpose. The cause of the crime is yet to be ascertained and the culprits are also absconding. According to police, the attack took place while Shivraj was on his way to Paswan temple.

Postmortem only after arrest

Crowds rushed to the hospital as soon as the mayor was informed of the shooting. The mayor's family and others demanded the arrest of the perpetrators. Police explained to the people that the body could be taken for postmortem but the agitated people and their families insisted that the postmortem be done only after the arrest of the culprits. The mayor's body was kept in his vehicle in the police station premises and the police tried to persuade the people.
