Basavaraj Bommai will be the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, likely to be sworn in today


Yeddyurappa's proposal was accepted by the MLAs without any protest

Bommai's father, who left the Janata Dal and joined the BJP in 2008, has also been Karnataka's chief minister

Bengaluru: Yeddyurappa has resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister. As a result, there are now reports that Basavaraj Bommai may become the new Chief Minister of the state. Bommai is currently the Home Minister of Karnataka. Recently, a meeting of BJP MLAs was held in which Yeddyurappa proposed Bommai's name which was accepted.

Acting Chief Minister Yeddyurappa proposed the name of Bombay, which was endorsed by Karjol Ashok Ishwarappa and all the MLAs. After which Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that Bommai has been selected as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka.

There are reports that Bommai could take over as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday. Karnataka BJP leader Sudhakar said the decision was taken by consensus of all MLAs. He received support not only from within the party but also from outside.

Like Yeddyurappa, Bommai, who is going to be the next Chief Minister, is associated with the influential Lingayat community in Karnataka. The swearing-in ceremony will be announced soon, Bommai said.

"It will be our priority to tackle the Corona epidemic and this is a big challenge," he said. We have to fight the Koro epidemic.

Bommai left the Janata Dal and joined the BJP in 2008. He is a mechanical engineer by profession. He has been MLC twice and MLA three times. His father SR Bommai has also been the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
