Arrival of the first passenger train in Manipur in 74 years of independence

New Delhi: A passenger train (Rajdhani Express) from Assam's Silchar railway station arrived at Manipur's Vaingaichunpao railway station on Friday for a trial run. With this, the state got a place on the map of Indian Railways.

According to the report, the train covered a distance of 11 km between the two stations in the north-east, in which railway officials were aboard. East Mojo reported that the train was soon stopped at Jiribam railway station in Manipur, where railway officials were greeted by locals before hoisting the national flag.

Indian Railways officials who reached Jiribham station from Silchar include Nrupen Bhattacharya, senior PRO of North East Frontier (NF) Railways and others, including CDO Silchar, Abdul Hakim.

Addressing the media, Bhattacharya said the broad gauge train service was extended from Silchar to Vaingaichunpao railway station. Passenger train service from Vaingaichunpao to Silchar will start soon.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday described the moment as historic on Twitter. "The first trial run of a passenger train from Silchar to Wangaichunpao in Tamenglong was successfully conducted on Friday," he wrote in the post. He said that the people of Manipur are very grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
