300 crore heroin seized from JNPT port in Navi Mumbai

The DRI team is apprehending and interrogating two people

MUMBAI: Customs officials seized about 290 kg of heroin from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) port in New Mumbai, valued at about Rs 300 crore. The case is being investigated by DRI officers.

Two people have been arrested in the case and further investigation is underway. This is the first case of such a large amount of heroin being found this year. Last year, 191 kg of heroin was seized by the DRI. Heroin was brought in the name of Ayurvedic medicine.

Punjab Police Special Task Force found 191 kg of heroin and other items from a house in Amritsar. Six accused were arrested in the case. It included two Afghan nationals.

There is a rumor that heroin worth Rs 300 crore has been found at the JNPT port. Further investigation into the case has been handed over to the Anti-Smuggling Intelligence, Investigation and Operations Agency (DRI).

It is suspected that the drug was brought here from Afghanistan through Iran. Heroin is said to have been smuggled under the pretext of talcum powder. Meanwhile, there is a risk of drug smuggling in Northeast India as well. Drugs are reportedly being smuggled from Myanmar.

Bollywood's drug connection was reported during the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput last year. The Bureau of Narcotics Control then interrogated several celebrities.

Sushant's girlfriend actress Riya Chakraborty was also arrested. Police are conducting a thorough investigation to nab drug dealers and buyers in Mumbai and across Maharashtra. Police continue to prosecute and arrest the accused and seize drugs.
