Weakening Punjab's youth, sending drugs to Pakistan to prevent them from joining defense forces: Amarinder

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has seized 659 kg of drugs worth Rs 1,318 crore in the international market and destroyed them. The action was taken on the International Day Against Drugs. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has reiterated his demand for a national drug policy to curb drug contamination.

In addition to heroin, other drugs were also destroyed, according to police. The drugs were destroyed under the leadership of Amritsar Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill.

Singh further appealed to the Special Task Force, Police and Intelligence Wing to work together to eradicate drug contamination from Punjab. He claimed that the neighboring states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi were ready to set up a new system to eradicate drug contamination. He called the problem international.

Singh claimed that his government was adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug contamination. He further said that this contamination is increasing due to the nexus of smugglers, gangsters and terrorists.

Heroin is smuggled into Punjab from Afghanistan via Pakistan. These drugs come from Pakistan to Punjab via Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi and Nepal. Amarinder Singh further alleged that Pakistan was conspiring to weaken the youth of Punjab. Pakistan wants the youth of Punjab to be weakened with the help of drugs so that they cannot join the defense forces.
