Railways handed over the probe to CBI

Kolkata: A family claiming to have lost a loved one in a train accident in West Bengal in 2010 has been found dead in a shocking incident.

The sister of the deceased and her father, who got the job, were called to the railway office for questioning, a CBI official said. The above train accident in May, 2010 killed 148 passengers.

While a goods train traveling from Howrah to Mumbai with Gyaneshwari Express train derailed, some coaches of Gyaneshwari train derailed at Sarhida in Zargram. The train accident was alleged to have been the result of vandalism as West Bengal was then mired in Maoist-inspired violence.

Claiming that his son had died in an accident, the Kolkata-based father of the deceased had identified his body from his son's DNA sample, a South-Eastern Railway official said.

In addition to financial compensation, the deceased's sister has been given a job in the signaling department of the Sealdah division of the Eastern Railway, according to an announcement made by the railways after the accident. The Railway Vigilance Department had launched an investigation after a complaint was received that a person believed to be dead in the accident was alive. And the investigation of the case has been handed over to the CBI.
