The G-7 will put the infrastructure project against China's road and belt scheme

The new global infrastructure plan will be announced shortly by the Group of Seven (G-7), a group of seven rich nations, in response to China's Belt and Road Initiative.

A senior official in President Biden's administration told reporters that the United States would urge other G-7 leaders to take concrete action against China. The leaders will also be asked to include China's comments in the final list.

"None of this is just a challenge to China, but so far we have not offered a functional alternative that reflects our values, our standards and our way of doing business," the official said.

The China Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a multi-million dollar infrastructure scheme launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, covering areas from Asia to Europe and beyond.

More than 100 countries have entered into agreements with China to partner in BRI projects related to railways, ports, highways and other infrastructure.

In March, Biden suggested to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is holding a three-day meeting of G-7 leaders, that democracies should develop their own rival plans.
