The country will soon get one more corona vaccine

New Delhi: The country will soon get one more corona vaccine. DGCI has approved Cipla for import of modern Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use. Thus, after Covishield, Covacin and Sputnik, the modern vaccine will be available in India.

A source said the DGCI has allowed Cipla to import the modern Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in the country under the provisions of the new Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 under the new Drugs and Clinical Testing Rules 2019.

In a letter dated June 27, Moderna informed the DGCI that the US government had agreed to donate a special quantity of its own Covid-19 vaccine to the Government of India for use here. He has also sought CDSO approval.

Cipla on Monday requested DGCI to authorize the import and distribution of the vaccine from an American pharmaceutical company. Covex Covid-19 is a global initiative for equitable distribution of vaccines. An official said the approval is in the public interest for limited use in case of emergency. The company must first report the effect of the vaccine on the first 100 beneficiaries before starting to use the vaccine for the vaccination program.

Cipla had on Monday applied for approval to import the vaccine. He had handed over the DGCI notice on April 15 and June 1. The notice said the vaccine could be authorized to be delivered without a bridging trial if approved by the USFDA for use in emergencies. In addition, each of its stocks can be exempted from the need to be inspected by CDL at Kasauli.
