Lieutenant General DP Pandey, commander of the 15th Corps of troops stationed in Kashmir, said the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan could push some militants into Kashmir. However the army is deployed in the Line of Control and inland areas to counter any mishap. The commander of Chinar Corps said that some people who are in favor of independence should think about the situation across the LOC and on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Asked about the situation in Kashmir after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, he said, "Yes, the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan could push some militants into Kashmir." However, the condition of the valley is not the same as it was 30 years ago. Earlier only money was coming under narco module but now drugs are also coming. Such cases are being handled by the police very effectively and large quantities of drugs have been seized.

He was also asked whether the current dialogue between the politicians of Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi would affect the security situation in Kashmir. In his reply, he said the security situation and the political process are two different things.
