In the Amazon jungle, trees are cut down as much as 3 football fields per minute

Rio de Janeiro, June 4, 2021, Friday

The Amazon rainforest, spread over an area of 2.1 million square feet in seven countries on the South American continent, provides about 70 percent of the earth's oxygen. A large part of the tropical forest, which is important for photosynthesis on Earth, is located in the Amazon Basin, which accounts for about 90 percent of the Earth's rainforest. According to a study, as many as three football fields are being cut down every minute. Eleven percent of the Amazon's forests have been cleared. Experts believe that 11 per cent, though small in stature, is much larger than the forest area of 2.1 million sq km.

Robert Walker, a geographer at the University of Florida, has been studying the Amazon jungle for the past 30 years. According to their study, in the first six months of the year 2020, in Brazil alone, 1,404 sq km of forest was destroyed. The deforestation of the Amazon has increased significantly since 2014. According to the US National Institute of Space Research, forest fires around the Amazon River in Brazil have risen by 3%. If even a single tree were to act as a biological pump for the environment, the jungle of the Amazon would be like the lungs of the earth. The lungs are constantly weakened by the human greed virus. Since the beginning of industrialization 200 years ago, deforestation has declined by 7%, with tropical deforestation eroding.

According to one estimate, some 15 billion trees are cut down worldwide each year. The economic benefits of tree felling are spent but the damage done to the environment is permanent. Some time ago, it was predicted about the Amazon rainforest that if the Baroque forest continues to be deforested in this way, it will not exist in 202. Rainforests like the Amazon have a very big role to play in the Earth’s environment. The Amazon has over 50,000 species of plants and trees. There are more than 3 lakh species of worm spiders and many mysterious creatures. The Amazon rainforest has existed on Earth for approximately 3 million years.

Forests are cut down in an area of 1.5 million sq km in the world every year

There are 3 trillion trees in the world which are declining rapidly. Trees do not grow as fast as they are cut down. It takes 20 minutes to cut down a tree while it takes 30 years to fully develop. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, 12 lakh sq km of forests are being destroyed every year, of which 20 lakh hectares are used for agriculture. About 8% of the forest trees are cut down and used for firewood. While forest fires destroy 61% of the trees. Forests are a natural source of wildlife, disrupting the cycle of biodiversity.
