Extending the post-study visa to Britain will benefit Indian students

Increasing the time limit for qualifying for a new Post Study Work (PSW) visa in the UK will benefit Indian students. Over the last few years Indian students have been one of the largest group of international students to be admitted to British universities.

Foreign students obtaining a PSW visa can work or find a job in the UK for up to two years after completing their studies. The visas were introduced last year by Britain's Home Secretary Preeti Patel.

Students applying for PSW visas were expected to stay here till June 21 in view of the Covid-12 lockdown under application requirements. However, the Home Ministry last week revised its guidelines and extended the deadline to September 8.

The National Union of Indian Students and Alumni (NISU), UK has been demanding an extension for some time.

Travel bans have been imposed on India on April 4 following the rise in Delta variants of the Corona virus. Eligible Indian students are allowed to come to the UK but many students have been forced to postpone their plans because they have to stay in isolation in a hotel for ten days after entering the UK, which increases the cost by પા 150.

"We are delighted that the UK Home Office has accepted our demand," said Sanam Arora, President, NISU, UK. Britain's decision will help many Indian students who are unable to travel in India due to Corona's condition.
