Eventually the monsoon arrived in Kerala, cooling down with strong winds and rains

The southwest monsoon has arrived in Kerala today, according to the meteorological department. The monsoon reached the coast of Kerala at 11 am. This time the monsoon is three days behind schedule.

The meteorological department had earlier forecast the arrival of monsoon on May 31. Although pre-monsoon rains have been falling in Kerala for three days, the monsoon has officially reached Kerala today, according to the meteorological department. Kerala is currently experiencing cold spells and heavy rains. Monsoon clouds are seen along the coast of Kerala and the adjoining East Arabian Sea.

According to the meteorological department, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan are likely to receive up to 108 per cent rainfall during June-September. In South India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Orissa are likely to receive 93 to 107 per cent rainfall.

Some areas of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam and Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive below normal rainfall.

Rains entered Andaman and Nicobar on May 21. The monsoon crossed the Maldives on 27 May.
