Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram today asked Infosys and its chairman Nandan Nilekani to address the difficulties in accessing the Income-tax department's new e-filing website. He had lodged several complaints with the Finance Minister in this regard as users were facing many difficulties after the launch of the new website.

Infosys was contracted to create a new website for filing income tax in 2014. It was decided to reduce the time of income tax filing process from 3 days to one day and to launch this new website with the aim of getting quick refund to the taxpayers.

The portal was launched yesterday evening. Announcing this, Nirmala Sitaram said this morning that the new website will enable taxpayers to perform tax related tasks quickly and easily.

However, as these taxpayers started using the website, the problems escalated and the Finance Minister started receiving complaints. "I hope Infosys and Nandan Nilekani will not disappoint our taxpayers in terms of quality and service," the finance minister said on Twitter after the complaints.

It may be mentioned that Infosys had earlier created the GST Network (GSTN) portal. This portal is used for GST payment. Initially, the portal was also reported to be slow.
